This ethics discussion will explore what the Rules of Professional Conduct have in common with the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion from The Wizard of Oz. Through panel discussion of what we as lawyers have in common with the quests of these characters, the attendees will be reminded of some core ethical obligations and aspirations of the commitments we have made as lawyers, and how practically to satisfy those obligations and commitments.

A.J. Singleton is General Counsel to and a Member of Stoll Keenon Ogden PLLC in Lexington, Kentucky. A.J. advises law firms and individual lawyers facing the breakup of their firms or lawyer departures. He is currently Chair of the ABA Business Law Section’s Professional Responsibility Committee, a member of the Kentucky Bar Association's Ethics Committee, and Chair of the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government Ethics Commission. A.J. is a frequent lecturer on legal ethics and law industry issues, including conflicts of interest, client confidentiality, the attorney-client privilege, and law firm risk management.

After five years in public interest, Daniela joined the law firm of Weiss Serota Helfman Cole Bierman, P.L. where she is as a member of the Government Division and Municipal Counsel team. She focuses her practice on representing municipalities and private property owners in local government law matters, and continues to advise both public and private nonprofit organizations.

Amy Richardson is a partner with HWG LLP, where she serves as Chair of the Legal Ethics and Malpractice group. Ms. Richardson counsels and represents lawyers and law firms on a variety of matters include disciplinary investigations, malpractice matters, partner admissions and departures, and law firm dissolutions. She teaches ethics and professional responsibility at Duke University School of Law.
Ms. Richardson is also an active white-collar criminal defense practitioner. Ms. Richardson has received Chambers USA‘s top ranking for white collar crime and government investigations lawyers in North Carolina.

Jasmine Smith is a cum laude graduate of the University of South Carolina. She also received a graduate degree specializing in Marriage and Family Therapy. Jasmine worked as a counselor and psychology instructor. She received many years of training and experience counseling individuals, couples, and families. As a member of the South Carolina Bar and ABA, Jasmine actively serves on several bar and community committees and aims to specifically address issues attorneys encounter. She uses her background in counseling to assist fellow lawyers. She has received numerous community and professional honors. Jasmine’s current practice focuses in part on professional responsibility.
